"This Ain't No Rodeo!" is a celebration of virtuosity and humor. Set to the music of The Beatles, Franz Schuburt, The Klezmatics, Elvis Presley and The Ikettes, dance powerhouse Monica Bill Barnes and her tutu-wearing sidekick Deborah Lohse present six post-modern solo dances with a pop culture spin. In a masterful turn, sudden touches-a cough or stumble-they turn zaniness into a profoundly humanistic character study. Singing and audience participation add to the humor and charm of this unforgettable performance..
Monica Bill Barnes is a New York based choreographer described by Deborah Jowitt of The Village Voice as “one of
the wittiest young choreographers around--she can stir your heart as well as make you laugh." During the last decade,
Barnes has created twelve evening-length dance works for her company, Monica Bill Barnes & Company, ranging from a two woman vaudevillian style traveling show to an intergenerational dance extravaganza for fifteen performers.
Barnes' choreography has been produced in over twenty different venues in New York City and has been presented in more than 30 cities
nationally and internationally.
