The Wyeths: America's Artists
See 80 quintessentially American works of art by three generations of this famous family: illustrator and painter N.C. Wyeth (1882-1945); Andrew Wyeth (1917-2009), known by many as "America's Painter"; and James Browning Wyeth (b. 1946).
Visitors will find dramatic oil paintings by N.C. Wyeth produced to illustrate such classic American literature as Sidney Lanier's The Boy's King Arthur, Jules Verne's The Mysterious Island and Robert Louis Stevenson's Treasure Island. In addition, N.C.'s paintings of his summer home and the seacoast of Maine will be included. Andrew Wyeth's introspective watercolors, drawings and tempera paintings will reflect his emotional connections to the rural landscape and seascape and to the small circle of close friends and family he chose to focus upon in his paintings. Jamie Wyeth's more outward-looking paintings focus on the landscape of Maine and nearby islands.
The exhibition is available January 18 through March 31. Guided tours range from 30-60 minutes depending on student grade level. Tours are limited to a maximum of 60 students per group. Please schedule tours at least three weeks in advance.
Special announcement: The KIA is pleased to offer docent-guided tours of The Wyeths: America's Artists free-of-charge to school groups. Tours will not count towards using your EFA Presents! Admission Credits.
